If there is anyone who can be regarded as the 'Father of Basketball' in Broken Hill
it is Bob Sanderson. For years Bob Sanderson and basketball had become synonymous
in Broken Hill. He had excelled in many sports and gained the reputation as a fair
and dedicated person. However it is his contribution to basketball that had earned
him the admiration and gratitude of literally thousands of Broken Hill people.
Bob's energy and unflagging sense of purpose had resulted in the creation
of one of the best country basketball associations in Australia.
However it is his contribution to basketball that had earned
him the admiration and gratitude of all the people he had come in contact with,
and his contribution to basketball in Broken Hill resulted in the creation of one
of the best country basketball associations in Australia.
To those who accept unthinkingly the benefits of his work we give the
advice to reflect on what this man has achieved and made available for
the enjoyment of others. Perhaps Bob's greatest achievement in sport was
to be instrumental in the planning and building of the basketball stadiums in
Broken Hill, starting with the old outside courts to the present indoor complex
comprising of three indoor courts, lounge and canteen.
